The Unexpected

When I woke up this morning, I still felt groggy. I was so sure it 7AM or something. But when I glanced over at the clock, I realized it was 10:58AM. Damn, I slept that long (~9 hours) and I still feel groggy? Unexpected. I felt a little guilty about oversleeping, so I quickly got up out of bed and made a mental “to do” list while I prepared breakfast.

Special K blueberry cereal and 1/2 glass of [super sugary] juice (ick!)

After eating breakfast and making the bed, I opened the blinds in the bedroom a little. I love the light it brings in and I think the pup enjoys people watching as much as I do, haha.

Opening the blinds to find that it has been POURING like crazy was a little unexpected. I mean, it has been soooo cold in Ottawa! And to see a bit of rain with above freezing temperatures? Unexpected and Refreshing!

Rain, rain, rain…

My mental “to do” list basically consisted of the usual Saturday morning stuff: tidy the apartment, call my parents, go to the gym followed by tanning, prepare dinner, etc. I successfully completed it all! Woohoo. But gaaah #*$@(# — I was wearing my knee-high boots from Aldo today… as I was walking to the gym, I felt something funny with my shoe. I looked down to find that the heel was deattaching itself from the rest of the shoe on the back! I bought these like, LESS THAN A MONTH AGO. Ugh! However, I did located the reciept in my purse and I am hoping that Aldo will let me exchange them for another pair. #Unexpected

While burning zee calories at the gym, I received a rather unexpected phone call from my aunt in Newfoundland. Apparently, a few of my aunts are planning a “girls vacation” to Florida (which doesn’t surprise me, they always do this – last year, they went to New York. The year prior, they went to Italy. Ah, I want their life!). I turned down their invitation to go though simply because I just don’t have the money. Then my aunt informed me, “No, no, we’re going to pay for everything!” …Um, say whaaaat?

So yes, from June 16-27, I will be enjoying the sun in Florida! SWEET. I’ve never been, so it should be a good time. Totally totally unexpected.

Today was just full of surprises- some bad, some good. But I think it’s safe to say that the good certainly outweighed the bad ;)

Question(s): Do you like surprises? Is their any upcoming travel plans in your life?

Favourite Friday: Drugstore Buys

I’m constantly at the drugstore buying whatever: magazines, snacks, groceries, makeup, dog treats… you know, whatever I can blow my $$ on. And yes, at times, pointless crap. And it seriously does not help that I live right across from a drugstore. But anyway, here are my favourite drugstore buys:

Quo brush cleaner, Quo bronzing power brush, Cosmopolitan mag, baby wipes,

If I had to pick just one of those items that I am constantly buying, it would certainly have to be a magazine. Cosmopolitan, Glamour, People, ahhh whatever… if it’s there, I’ll buy it :P Which reminds me, look at this hilarious ad I found in the February’s issue of Cosmopolitian (the issue pictured above):

LMFAO

What is your favourite thing to buy at the drugstore? What is your all time favourite magazine? (I need suggestions, you guys!)

The YAYs and NAYs of today

I totally forgot to welcome MARCH into my life (pure sadness!)– So I’m gonna do it up now…

Happy March Evurrrrbuuudy!!!

Don’t you just love March? I sure do! I’m a huge supporter of St. Paddy’s Day celebrations, so there’s my reasoning behind my lurve for March! Speaking of love, do you know what I was introduced to this morning that I absolutely LOVE?

YAY for he goodness that is Special K – in the new BLUEBERRY FLAVOUR!

I was aaaalll over it – & so were my sliced stawberries:

Also, YAY for simplicity! I re-arranged my dresser yesterday. It looks spring-ish :)

YAY for receiving a dozen of red roses from your loved one. Thanku, thanku, thanku!

YAY for realizing that leftover lasagna will be my lunch today:

But NAY to then realizing that not only is the cable bill due today,

I also have a crap load of stuff that is due tomorrow :’(

…Which prevents me from going to the gym today. Ugh! Will have to go tomorrow instead.

So although I’ll be enjoying my lunch and the beautiful sight of my roses,

I will not enjoy writing a paper on rentier states in Azerbaijan and  Kazakhstan :P

Question(s): Will you be celebrating anything special this month? What are your YAYS and NAYS of today?

I’m a St. John’s kinda girl

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I booked a flight to Newfoundland for 9 days. For those of you who don’t know, Newfoundland is my birth place and also the land of fries, dressing, and gravy; Puffins; the Newfoundland dog; and the Republic of Doyle. And for those who are challenged when it comes to geography…

So erm yes, more about my vacation back home: It was good! …And totally jammed pack with drinking nonsense, family get togethers, good greasy food, and two dentist appointments (ugh). I just flew back to Ottawa yesterday and I swear, it has been NON-STOP! I haven’t even unpacked my suitcases yet :X Because my brain isn’t working properly yet, here’s more photos and less jibber jabber for you folks ;)

Goodbye Ottawa!

Dranks with friends <3

I’m a dorkface :X

Boyfran and I…

The only reason i’m including this pic is because I love how my bronzer looks, haha #suchachick

Spent a ‘bitta time downtown, St. John’s – I love/miss the colourful buildings!

Enjoying some Starbucks downtown, mmm :)

I bought these colourful houses fridge magnets for my apartment. Aren’t they adorable?

My little vacation back home was amazing! I wish I could have stayed a little longer though. But ah well, I had to race home and get back into the grind, aka, grad school. Le Sigh.

Question(s): Do you live from home? How often do you visit back home?

A light, delicious dessert

Looking for a quick and easy (and certainly delicious!) dessert to accompany dinner tonight? Try cutting up some fruit and serve it with low in fat whipped cream. It’s freaking delicious! Even banana dipped in whipped cream! Yes, I know, banana and whipped cream seems a little odd together, but I promise it tastes good (and it’s healthy, too!).

  • 1 sliced banana
  • 4 sliced strawberries
  • Low in fat whipped cream on the side

What’s your favourite dessert? Although I LOVE the fruit + whipped cream dealy, I’m more of a CHEESECAKE kind of girl. MMM, am I right? It’s friggin’ awesome. But yanno, you can’t be eating that stuff everyday, so the fruit and whipped cream is certainly the winning alternative.
