Ottawa Review: Isobel’s Cupcakes & Cookies

A couple of weeks ago, while browsing through Ottawa’s twittersphere, I came across Isobel’s Cupcakes and Cookies (@isobelscupcakes). I immediately found their website and tapped their address into my phone. I didn’t care where this little cupcake shop was located, I was going to get one! …Or two… or six ;)

Isobel’s Cupcakes and Cookies is a family operated business located in Ottawa. Their cupcakes are 100% nut free and they offer a wide variety of (super cute!) cookies as well.

Ken and I had a hard time picking six cupcakes out– there were so many to choose from! Chocolate orange, classic chocolate vanilla, double chocolate, white chocolate, ganache, lemon curd, vanilla bean, red velvet… plus their seasonal cupcakes ;) In the end, we decided to go with the following:

6 cupcakes: $15 taxes included

The red velvet was amazing… heaven-in-your-mouth-amazing! We ended up getting two of these…

My favourite? Definitely the strawberry shortcake cupcake! Words cannot describe how delicious this one was… ahh, soo good. The cupcake, the icing, the strawberry inside… oh so perfect!

How to wear a maxi dress with a jean jacket

Let me tell you about a little idea I once had. It involved a jean jacket (from Garage Clothing) and a floral maxi dress I recently bought at Dynamite. Actually, let me show you…

Doesn’t this look okay? Even cute? *nods* Yeah, I think so. I even googled “maxi dress with jean jacket” to convince myself this little combo is pretty darn stylish (SEE! It is!). Well, after thinking about it, googling it, and even tweeting about it, I decided to try it on.

Epic fail.

And I don’t even know why. It just looks odd on me. I think maybe it’s the fit of the jacket, so if I see another one while shopping… I’m going to try it out. I’m too in love with this idea to let it go ;)

Want to know another bad idea I just had? Eating ice-cream (chocolate chip cookie dough FTW!) with one hand and typing this blog post up with the other. Erm. Ice-cream… all… over… my hands/face/keyboard. My gosh. I should probably avoid the scales today and clean this mess up :3

Today started off with a BANG + OOTD

When I say that today started off with a bang, I mean that… quite literally.

You see, I was sitting on the bed talking to Ken, laughing at the fact that Pepper {my boxer} was blitzing around the apartment {like he normally does}. He then dashed into the bedroom, running for the bed. I tried to stop him but was a little too late– my 70lb boxer dog was already in mid-air, leaping for the bed.

SMACK!!!!!!! Right into my face.

Immediately, I felt something dripping off my face. I quickly looked down and noticed blood! My first thought? “Oh #@$%&! I lost a tooth!” After quickly checking my teeth and realizing that all of my pearly whites were there, I finally realized that the blood was coming from my nose. I was a little startled. I’ve never ever had a nose bleed in my life!

I’ll spare you all of the nasty details, but my nose bled massive amounts for a good hour. I’m not sure if it’s broken or not, but I guess I’ll see if there’s any swelling or bruising within the next few hours. In the meantime, I’ve been icing it… as expected, it really hurts and it’s hard to breathe. AH.. I hope it’s not broken :/

On a lighter note, check out my OOTD. Yes, I’m wearing white jeans on the day I get a nose bleed. I’m smart like that ;P

McHappy Day is TOMORROW!

Have you heard about McDonald’s McHappy Day? It’s actually starting tomorrow, May 2! {Holy! I can’t believe it’s already May…}– but anyway, in case you have no idea what I am talking about, McDonald’s will be raising awareness and money for children’s charities across Canada tomorrow– McHappy Day!

How you can help:

On May 2nd, purchase a Big Mac, Happy Meal, or a hot McCafe beverage– McDonald’s Canada will donate $1.00 to local charities such as the Ronald McDonald Houses!
